Painting: Shinya Okayama
Too often humans want to kill things they don’t understand.
Their answer to invasive plants is to kill them, invasive animal species..kill them.
Does this solve anything?
Often by killing these things it just causes them to breed more, adapt or get stronger, more resistant. It upsets the natural balance and causes a chain reaction.
Even apart from the moral issues, it is not okay and it is not the way forward.
It is likely that the underlying reason why anything is invasive, is because of previous human interference.
What if, humans started thinking differently. What if they learned to live alongside that which is not agreeable to them (for whatever reason) in mutual harmony for mutual benefit.
This Post’s quote:
Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are banded together, all things connect.
Chief Seattle (1854)
Authors note: Shinya Okayama is a most amazing artist. When we talk of peace/harmony/unity often the depictions are soley humans. I love the way Shinya incorporates the whole deal….plants, animals and people 🤗
